The Bears had posted a competitive total of 282 all out thanks to a maiden List A century from George Garton (117 from 101) and a 53-ball 50 from Ethan Bamber, however the Outlaws remained just ahead of the rate throughout their chase, eventually reaching the total seven wickets down with nine balls remaining.
Westwood says the toss proved to be crucial as his side lost early wickets, but he was delighted with the way Garton played under pressure to help the Bears to a testing total.
“I thought we got a good score,” he said. “Toss-wise, we would have liked to have bowled as it nipped around a bit early, but we were happy with the total we got to.
“George has obviously played some good cameos for us, but I think he enjoyed going out there with a lot of time to bat. He played beautifully from ball one really and struck the ball cleanly.
“I thought it was a brilliant knock actually in the circumstance of losing early wickets, not just to go on and get 100, but just how freely he scored seemingly without taking risks.”
Warwickshire have the opportunity to bounce back on Sunday, when they travel to Somerset who lost their opening fixture against Notts by four wickets.
Westwood says that although the Bears are short on bowling options due to injury, the competition is providing opportunities for others which is exciting for the Club.
“We've done some good stuff over the opening two games, but have lost those small moments,” he added.
“We're not a million miles away but we’re light on personnel with the ball, particularly our seam bowling options. The lads who are playing are doing as well as they can.
“It's a good thing about this comp that you get to see people given an opportunity to show what they can do.
“Young Jake Garlick has come in and I think he's done well, but we could do with a bit more depth there. We went with two wrist spinners against Notts, which I think worked for the majority, and Rob Yates bowled well, so we’re trying to find ways to get wickets.”
