WCF works with clubs, schools, communities and various local organisations across the breadth of the region to ensure that cricket is the most inclusive sport in the country. Our strategy, Cricket Without Limits, aims to bring the sport to areas and communities which may not otherwise have access to it.
In this past year, we reached more people with our variety of programmes, events and clubs than ever before - almost 30,000 young people participated via our schools programmes and almost 5,000 more people attended our community cricket schemes.
Our purposes are to promote the physical and mental wellbeing of those who we reach through cricket, to champion the skills of participants and to enhance those skills through training in a supportive and positive environment.
The Foundation is built on seven pillars which guide our work; Women and Girls, Workforce, Accessibility, Cricket Clubs and Hubs, Community, Schools and Edgbaston Stadium. Year on year, we have made significant headway in developing various aspects of these pillars.
Women and Girls fixtures skyrocket
One of the most fruitful areas of our work in 2024/25 came in the efforts made in our varied women and girls engagement.
The ECB’s Cricket Cities programme enabled the Foundation to reach almost 1,500 people from areas of Birmingham in which opportunities to secure physical activity can be hard to come by - and, with a focus on involving women and girls, 64% of the participants were female.
As many as 590 fixtures were laid on by the Foundation for 162 different teams made up of women and girls - that was a 75% increase on 2023/24, when 337 fixtures were organised.
Career opportunities at an all-time high
WCF strives to expand the career prospects of young people; we upskill young men and women so that they may enjoy a broader range of career options. This involves making various paid and voluntary roles in the cricket sphere accessible, in order to provide invaluable experience for individuals.
In 2024/25, WCF’s Workforce team were responsible for training 560 young people - that is a rise of 63% from the year 2023/24 - in roles which ranged from cricket coaches to matchday volunteers.
