Tanveer Sangha returns to Birmingham Phoenix

Australian leg-spinner Tanveer Sangha will return to Birmingham Phoenix for the third year of The Hundred.

The 21-year-old, who stars for Sydney Thunder in the Big Bash, is due to arrive on the 14 August to replace Shadab Khan for the final three matches and the knockout stages if needed. The Pakistan all-rounder will link-up with his national side ahead their Asia Cup campaign.

Sangha was selected during last year's tournament, and made a standout performance after replacing Imran Tahir for the final game against London Spirit.

Batting eleven, Sangha joined Tom Helm in the middle with 18 needed off 13 with one wicket remaining. The right-hander was equal to the challenge taking it to the final ball with a towering six off Mason Crane and a neat ramp to the boundary off Ellis.

With two needed Brad Wheal bowled a wide before Sangha scrambled the winning single.

Elsewhere around the league, Jemimah Rodrigues will be back at Northern Superchargers for the third year of The Hundred as she returns to replace the injured Heather Graham.

The 22-year-old Indian star, who was second top-scorer in the first year of the competition, is one of a number of replacements and temporary replacements required through injury and international commitments.

Rodrigues said: “I’m so excited to be back in The Hundred. It’s a world class competition and I’ve had so much taking part in it previously. I was very disappointed to have to withdraw last year through injury so it’s great to be back. Headingley is a brilliant ground to play at, with great fans, and I can’t wait to be back out there.”

Australian captain Alyssa Healy has been ruled out with a broken finger, replaced by compatriot Phoebe Litchfield, while Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan will be replaced by New Zealand’s Ish Sodhi when he returns to fulfil international commitments.
