Six represent Warwickshire in ECB Super 4s tournament

Six members of Warwickshire’s Academy were invited to represent a Midlands side in this year’s ECB Super 4s tournament.

Tazeem Ali, Sam Atkinson, Amir Khan, George Maddy, Hamza Shaikh and Theo Wylie all featured heavily as they won three out of their five games at the ECB’s National Academy grounds at Loughborough University.

In its tenth year, the Super 4s provides a good testing ground for young talent, sitting between the ECB David English Bunbury Festival and the England Young Lions Programme on the National Performance Pathway.

Involving the best U17 and U18 cricketers from around England and Wales, the tournament showcases their talent to coaches and selectors throughout the game including England U19s head coach Michael Yardy.

In recent years, Ethan Brookes, Dan Mousley and Rob Yates have all been included, whilst the competition has proved a springboard for young county talents such as Rehan Ahmed and Will Smeed.

“The six players who were chosen did themselves no harm and I’m sure they’ll be looking to build on their experience throughout the rest of the summer.”

Isaac Mohammed, who scored 228 for the U18’s this week vs Wales, Isaac Maddy and Rory Grant will also participate in the ECB David English Bunbury Festival next week.
