Ahmed has served fouryears as Chair of the Committee, which acts as the voice of the Membership and the link to the Club’s Executive and Board, and Brereton will now take over that mantle after serving as a Committee Member since 2022.
Born and raised in Birmingham, Brereton has had a lifelong passion for cricket, inspired from a very early age by his father.
Cricket is very much a family affair for the Brereton family. When they are not attending Bears’ fixtures together, his son Michael is either playing or coaching cricket, and his wife (an ACO qualified scorer) can often be found in the scorebox at Edgbaston, having been appointed to the Warwickshire Scoring Panel.
Professionally, Stuart has a background in the IT sector, having held a range of technical, managerial and board roles. He currently works as a Linux System Administrator and Cloud Technologies Engineer. Alongside this, he serves as Chair of Governors at Priory School Edgbaston, where he brings strategic oversight, ensures strong governance, and represents a wide and diverse school community with fairness and impartiality.
Brereton recognises his role as one of the most vital platforms to represent the collective voice of the membership. He is equally committed and excited with his role on the Digital Transformation Group, where he is keen to help shape how the Club evolves and engages with members in an increasingly digital world.
Brereton is passionate about ensuring that all members feel heard and valued. He strives to represent the full diversity of the membership, regardless of background, age, or perspective, and to support the continued growth and accessibility of the Club at all levels and within the grassroots of the game. He always wears his name badge in the ground and welcomes a chat at any time.
Brereton said: “I’m incredibly proud to have been appointed Chair of Warwickshire County Cricket Club’s Members’ Committee. Warwickshire means the world to me, and it is a privilege to represent our members in this role. I would also like to thank Iftkhar for all his hard work as Chair. I look forward to meeting as many members as I can, listening to their views and working with the Committee, the Board and everyone at the Club to ensure their voices are heard as we look to the future.”
Warwickshire County Cricket Club Chair Tracey Orr said: “Congratulations to Stuart as he takes up this new role. He will be great appointment, and I look forward to working with him in ensuring that members and their views are represented throughout the club. I wish him every success and know that his leadership and commitment will be greatly valued.”
