Preview: Warwickshire v Notts Outlaws, Royal London Cup (2021)

Warwickshire face Notts Outlaws in the Royal London Cup seeking to build on an encouraging display from their very young side in the narrow defeat in the opener away to Glamorgan.

The Bears lost by two wickets in Cardiff on Thursday after a thrilling match in which their young guns performed admirably.

The team had an average age of 22 years and five months with three full debutants (Ashish Chakrapani, Manraj Johal and Kiel Van Vollenhoven) and five List A debutants (Jake Bethell, Ethan Brookes, Chris Benjamin, George Garrett and Ryan Sidebottom).

Against Notts tomorrow, the Bears welcome back into the squad senior duo Will Rhodes and Rob Yates who missed the match in Cardiff as they were representing the England Counties XI against India at Chester-le-Street. Whether they play will be decided after fitness checks. Craig Miles, who took four wickets in the match at Durham, misses out having returned with a knee niggle.

With the Bears still challenging for trophies on all fronts - top of the LV=Insurance County Championship and in the Vitality Blast quarter-finals - keeping players as fit and fresh as possible is a key consideration

"Rhodes and Yates are back with us after playing against India for the Counties XI," said first team coach Mark Robinson. "We'll just have to see how they are physically, because the players have done some heavy duty through that recent championship spell. They finished games on a Friday night, then turned around on a Saturday and played again on a Sunday.

"Those two have also just had those last two high-pressure T20 games and then three days in Durham so we'll just see where they are physically.

"But our young players did really well at Cardiff on Thursday and there were lots of positives. With a very young side we took it right down to the wire. You always want to win, but it was a great game of cricket and a great way to start the competition from an entertainment point of view.

"It was a day to remember for a lot of the young guys, some of whom a few months ago would never have envisaged playing for Warwickshire in a last-over thriller."
