Malan endured visa issues after signing as the red ball overseas, but the 31-year-old would go on to play six matches, including a 141 and 77 in the final game against Worcestershire at New Road.
"It’s been good, but I got off to a slow start," Malan said.
"It was nice to score some runs at the end and for the team to finish in the top two was a fantastic effort so I’m really proud of them.
"From the off the field point of view I’ve really enjoyed it. The main goal from the beginning was qualifying for the top division in September and we achieved that."
Malan - who has played three Tests for South Africa - will now return home as he awaits a new arrival.
"My plan is to get home and see the family first," added Malan.
"We’ve got our second little one due end of August so all the focus will be on that for now. If this year has taught us anything it’s that you can’t plan too far ahead. We’ll take it day by day and I’ve really enjoyed my time here."
