One of Pakistan’s most experienced Test bowlers, Mohammad Abbas will lead the attack hoping to continue his good recent form in the format.

The 36-year-old picked up his seventh career five-wicket haul in Tests against the West Indies last month, taking five for 22 in a stunning 15 overs that brought his side back into the contest.

That marked his latest stand-out achievement in the five-day game which began when he made his debut back in 2017. In the nine years that have followed, he’s made 30 appearances in Tests, taking 118 wickets at an impressive average of 22.38, all while going at just 2.50 runs per over.

Abbas will return to Edgbaston as no stranger to red-ball cricket there, having played First Class cricket at the ground for Hampshire against Warwickshire Bears in 2021. On that occasion, Abbas would take five for 29 in the first innings, as Hampshire went on to edge past the hosts in the County Championship.

He is currently ranked as the 17th best bowler in Test cricket according to the ICC Test Bowling Rankings. Back in 2018, he climbed as high as third on those Rankings after he took ten wickets in the match against Australia in the UAE, helping Pakistan a series-clinching victory.
