Pakistan player in focus: Imam-ul-Haq

England take on Pakistan in a three-Test series later this year, with Edgbaston Stadium hosting the final Test of the summer between the two sides.

Last week we highlighted the influential figure of Babar Azam, who returns to captain the team. This week it’s the turn of Imam-ul-Haq.

Imam-ul-Haq made his Test debut eight years ago and is now a mainstay of Pakistan’s red-ball side.

Initially known more widely as the nephew of Pakistan great Inzamam-ul-Haq, Imam has carved his own path, representing his country on 27 occasions in Tests so far, while earning 75 starts in their ODI team.

The 30-year-old’s First-Class record is outstanding, with almost 6,000 runs to his name at an average of 49. Those performances earned him his call-up to the national team, where he has since gone on to record three centuries and ten 50s.

His finest moment in a Pakistan Test shirt to date came in 2022 at Rawalpindi against Australia. After striking a brilliant 157 in the first innings, he followed that up with an unbeaten 111 in the second innings to make sure of a hard-fought draw. It marked Imam’s first start in the Test side since 2019, and he has remained a key part of the squad ever since.

This will be his first experience of playing Test cricket at Edgbaston, however he has played red-ball cricket in the country before. He’s played for Somerset and more-recently Yorkshire, having played for the White Rose in the County Championship during 2025.
