Captain Rob Yates was the driving force as Warwickshire retained their Metro Bank One Day Cup qualification hopes with a thumping six-wicket win over Gloucestershire at Rugby School.

Chasing Gloucestershire’s 271 for nine, Yates struck a glorious 132 (123 balls), his List A best, as the Bears reached 277 for four with 48 balls to spare. He was supported by Vansh Jani (66 not out, 58) in a decisive third-wicket partnership of 147 in 20 overs.

The visitors’ total had been built around Oliver Price’s fluent, List A-best 122 from 124 balls. Ethan Bamber conceded just 35 runs from his ten overs while Jordan Thompson took three for 47 and Jake Lintott three for 79.

The victory bolstered Warwickshire’s hopes of advancing to the knockout stage with three games remaining.

Previous meeting

The last List A meeting between the two sides was in 2024, when the Bears secured an emphatic eight-wicket victory. Led by skipper Ed Barnard, the Bears skittled Leicestershire for just 88 after putting the home team into bat.

Barnard picked up four quick wickets to leave the home side 40 for 4, before Craig Miles took three and Olly Hannon-Dalby, Will Rhodes and Jake Lintott finished the job with one apiece.

In reply, the Bears lost two wickets quickly, but Rhodes and Hamza Shaikh put together an unbeaten partnership of 85 to steer their side home with 32.4 overs in hand.
