Warwickshire First Team Coach Ian Westwood was dealt a blow last week with news that in-form seamer Michael Booth faces three months on the sidelines with a stress fracture to his ankle.

Booth is the Club’s second top wicket taker so far this season having claimed 16 scalps in four matches – only Ethan Bamber (18) has had more joy with the ball.

A scan last week revealed the injury which means he’s expected to be out of action until the end of July.

However, there’s better news with fellow seamer Chris Rushworth who returns to the Bears squad for the first time this season.

The 38-year-old had been struggling with a persistent calf issue but has been back bowling in the nets this month and is close to making a competitive return.

Westwood said: “It’s good to have Rushy back in the squad. We don’t know yet if he’ll play but he’s going well in training, he’s building back up, and has been progressing nicely with our Strength and Conditioning team.

“Chris Woakes still needs more time to get back to full fitness from his ankle injury.

“The news on Boothy came as a real blow. He’s had a great start to the season, looking very sharp and has been among the wickets.

“He’s in good hands and we hope to see him back as soon as possible.”
