Halliday hoping to boost Bears as One Day Cup returns

Overseas signing Brook Halliday is hoping to help Warwickshire Bears Women progress to the later stages of the Metro Bank One Day Cup, as 50-over cricket returns on Wednesday 19 August to Edgbaston Stadium.

Halliday was announced as the Bears’ latest signing earlier today, with the New Zealand international available for all remaining fixtures starting with the visit of Yorkshire Women to The People’s Home of Cricket tomorrow.

The 30-year-old left-handed batter and right-arm medium pace bowler arrived in the country on Monday evening before meeting up with the squad for the first time on Tuesday.

Having established herself as a regular member of the White Ferns squad since making her international debut in 2021, Halliday is excited by the prospect of being part of the Bears squad for the remainder of the season.

“Being able to play hopefully seven games over here in English conditions against strong domestic sides around the country is going to be really good,” he said.

“Having this opportunity allows me to be around different players, and different training environments, while working with different coaches.

“Everything about it is going to be really cool, and I’m looking forward to the next four weeks.”

The Bears currently sit fifth in the Metro Bank One Day Cup, two points behind third place with five games remaining. After all fixtures are complete, the teams in second and third place will go head-to-head, with the winner then progressing to the final.

Halliday, who has amassed 1,462 ODI runs at an average of 34.00, including a career-best unbeaten 157 and nine half-centuries, while also contributing 16 international wickets, is hoping to use all of her experience in the coming weeks to help the Bears progress.

“For me, this is about being able to put myself in the position to take opportunities that can help me to develop,” she added.

“I was talking to Ali [Maiden] yesterday and he was talking about the group. It’s quite a young group, so for me, being able to hopefully share some of my experience, and seeing what I can add to this team is important.
