Garrett to leave Warwickshire after agreeing Kent deal

Warwickshire seamer George Garrett is to leave the Club having agreed a deal with LV= Insurance County Championship Division One side Kent.

Garrett – who progressed through the Bears youth pathway from the age of 13 – has signed a two-year deal at The Spitfire Ground and will depart Edgbaston at the end of the month when his contract expires.

The 23-year-old, from Hertfordshire, made his first class debut aged 19 in August 2019, taking two wickets at Edgbaston against Somerset.

He’s played in all formats for Warwickshire, most recently taking 2/36 at Taunton in the 4 August win over Somerset in the Metro Bank One Day Cup, but has found first team opportunities limited.

“It’ll be sad to leave,” said Garrett, “as I’ve struck up some close friendships with Yatesy, Ethan and Henry Brookes, Dan Mousley and I’m good friends with OHD.

“But this is an opportunity for me to create a new identity in a new side so it’s an exciting chapter in my career.

“I played three four-day Second XI games for Kent and did pretty well. Then I got a call to go back in September, they outlined how they saw my role in the squad, the vibes were good, and I’ve only heard good things about the club.

“I only have fond memories and wish everyone well for the future.”

Garrett made 16 senior starts for Warwickshire and the Bears, taking 24 wickets, in his four years as a professional at the Club.

First Team Coach Mark Robinson, added: “It’s always sad when someone with the character and likeability of George leaves us. We’re all excited he has a chance to have more first team exposure at a new club than we have been able to give him.
