Brett looking forward to huge 50-over clash with Surrey

Phoebe Brett is excited by the prospect of being involved in a huge Metro Bank One Day Cup clash, as Warwickshire Bears Women take on Surrey in a must-win fixture at The Kia Oval.

The Bears produced a resounding seven-wicket win against Essex last time out, earning a bonus point in the process to climb to third place in the standings with two games remaining.

Surrey sit just one point behind the Bears, with the top three after the remaining games progressing through to the elimination phase of the competition.

Brett, who shone in the victory over Essex by taking four wickets with her left arm finger spin, is feeling ready ahead of the showdown in London.

“It’s a big game tomorrow and all of us are looking forward to it,” she said. “It should be a good game.

“My bowling has been feeling good recently, so it was nice to get a few wickets in the last game. I think it was also a really clinical team performance all round.

“We set out our goals at the start of the season. We’ve also shown that through partnerships with the bat and taking wickets at crucial times, we can make it happen. “It’s really good to see that starting to pay off on the field.”

The Bears played Surrey on the opening day of the competition, with Surrey winning by 52 runs in a high-scoring contest at Edgbaston.

On that occasion it was an 80-ball 124 from Danni Wyatt-Hodge that propelled them to victory as they posted a daunting 389 for nine from their 50 overs before Em Arlott smashed 90 from 74 balls, and Amu Surenkumar made 59 from 63 deliveries for the Bears who ended 52 runs short.

Brett is expecting a tough task, but says the team are confident they can produce when it matters.

“Our preparations have been the same as normal,” she added. “We’re just trying to keep everything within our control.

“I think if we go out there and play the cricket we have been, it’ll give us a good chance of taking the points.

“They’re definitely going to be coming at us hard. They have the same goals and intentions as we have, so I think it’ll be a really good game with some great cricket on show.”
