Team news

Warwickshire have named a 12-player squad for the trip south, with the playing XI set to be announced at the toss.

How things stand

The Bears have picked up two wins from their last three games since the One Day Cup returned last month and currently occupy third place in the table with two huge games remaining. With The Blaze and Hampshire clear in first and second, it’s a battle between four other teams for the third and final spot that would ensure progression through to the elimination match.

The Bears have 32 points while Lancashire have won five on the spin to climb to fourth on 31 points. Surrey and Somerset sit fifth and sixth respectively however are also on 31 points. Four teams separated by just one point. The battle for third will go down to the wire!

Last time out Warwickshire produced a complete performance to ease to a seven-wicket win over Essex. Phoebe Brett starred with the ball, bowling expertly to take four for 42, and she received good support from Hannah Baker who picked up three for 26 as Essex were dismissed for 202.

In reply, Meg Austin (25 from 20 balls) and Brooke Halliday (22 from 33) made important contributions, before Katie George continued her outstanding form with an unbeaten 72 alongside Abbey Freeborn who made a blistering 64 not out off 54 deliveries to get the Bears over the line.

Opposition insight

With only one point between the two teams in the table, this game could realistically decide who progresses through to the elimination match. There’s nothing to separate the teams in the table, and there’s little to separate them on current form either, with Surrey also winning two of their last three games.

They were dominant victors last time out against Essex, racking up 344 runs in their 50 overs before dismissing Essex for 226 to win by 118 runs.

Bryony Smith (57), Sune Luus (67) and Priyanaz Chatterji (77) all struck half centuries before the wickets were shared around between Izzy Sidhu, Luus, Emily Burke, Chatterji and Danielle Gregory as Surrey eased to their seventh win of the campaign.

Last meeting

The two teams met on the opening day of the One Day Cup with Surrey winning by 52 runs in a high-scoring contest at Edgbaston.

In a much-changed Surrey side, it was an 80-ball 124 from Danni Wyatt-Hodge that propelled them to victory as they posted a daunting 389 for nine from their 50 overs.

Em Arlott smashed 90 from 74 balls, and Amu Surenkumar made 59 from 63 deliveries for the Bears as they kept up with the required run rate, however it wasn’t enough as their chase ended on 337 for nine.
