How things stand

The Bears were well-beaten by Surrey last time out at The Kia Oval, with that result seeing Surrey jump above them in the league table. That result, alongside Somerset’s victory against Lancashire, have ended the Bears’ hopes of progressing through to the elimination stage of the competition this year.

Despite that, Saturday’s trip north gives them an opportunity to sign off the season with a victory.

It has been a season of progress for the Bears. Having finished seventh in the table last season, a win against Durham could see them finish as high as fourth this year.

Opposition insight

Durham currently sit seventh in the table having endured a testing period since the One Day Cup returned, losing each of their four fixtures. Last time out against an in-form Lancashire, they came close to returning to winning ways though, eventually losing by three runs in a rain-affected thriller.

In a game reduced to 38 overs, Durham restricted Lancs to 169 for eight, with Trudy Johnson (3-27) the pick of the bowlers. In reply, a half century from captain Hollie Armitage (54) and 43 from Bess Heath looked to have put Durham in control, however four quick wickets from Sophie Morris for Lancs halted Durham’s progress as they fell agonisingly short on 166 for nine.

Last meeting

The two teams last met in 50-over cricket back in May, and it was Durham who came out on top by five wickets in Birmingham.

Davina Perrin (69), Charis Pavely (55) and Nat Wraith (54) all struck 50s as the Bears scored 289 for six from their 50 overs.

Two early wickets from Alexa Stonehouse (3-53) reduced Durham to eight for two, and then when Hannah Baker (2-56) took the wicket of Tahlia Wilson, the visitors were 66 for three. However, a brilliant 106 from Mady Villiers that came off 86 balls, and a run-a-ball 85 not out from Emily Windsor helped to see Durham home, five wickets down.
