Report: Trent Rockets Women v Phoenix Women

Trent Rockets 124-4 beat Birmingham Phoenix 122-7 by six wickets.

Birmingham Phoenix suffered a third defeat in five matches in The Hundred as Sophia Dunkley’s innings guided Trent Rockets to an eight-wicket victory at Trent Bridge.

Defending 122, Phoenix made an encouraging start with the ball but were ultimately unable to contain Dunkley, whose 65 from 37 deliveries proved the difference as the Rockets reached their target with 16 balls remaining.

Earlier, Davina Perrin provided an energetic start to the innings, striking her way to 18 during the powerplay before mistiming Kim Garth to Charley Phillips at mid-on. Phoenix then lost wickets at regular intervals, with Alice Capsey bowled for one by Phillips, Ellyse Perry stumped off Ash Gardner and Tammy Beaumont run out by a direct hit from Dunkley to leave the visitors 55 for four.

Emma Lamb, making her first appearance of this year’s competition, anchored the recovery with a composed 45. Mixing sweeps, scoops and crisp drives, she found the boundary five times and shared a valuable 45-run partnership with Annerie Dercksen to give Phoenix a platform.

However, both Lamb and Dercksen fell to Garth, who finished with impressive figures of four for 23, restricting Phoenix to 121.

Phoenix briefly threatened to make inroads in the chase, but Dunkley quickly took control. The England international combined inventive strokeplay with powerful hitting, reaching a 26-ball half-century before eventually falling for 65.

There was some reward for Phoenix's bowlers, with Lauren Filer removing Nat Sciver-Brunt and Ash Gardner in successive deliveries to spark brief hope, but Sophie Luff finished the chase with a flurry of boundaries to seal victory.

The result leaves Phoenix with work to do in the race for the knockout stages ahead of their remaining group fixtures.
