Birmingham Phoenix travel to Trent Bridge for their second clash of the campaign with the Trent Rockets, with the Women’s game starting at 3:00pm before the Men’s match gets under way at 6:30pm.

Phoenix Women kickstarted their campaign with a thrilling victory over Welsh Fire at Edgbaston Stadium on Saturday. Needing 145 to win, Phoenix got there with one ball to spare as Alice Capsey and Ellyse Perry both reached their half centuries, before Australian star Perry scored the winning runs.

The Men’s team are now winless in three after losing out to Fire on Saturday. They will be hoping to channel good memories of their opening game, where they beat Trent Rockets at Edgbaston in a high-scoring thriller.

Phoenix stars to watch

Alice Capsey

The England star’s first half century in Phoenix colours at the weekend shows how she’s settled into her role at number three and is ready to attack the rest of the competition. In addition to her batting prowess, she also offers an option with the ball, which makes her a key player for captain Perry.

Joe Clarke

The only Phoenix Men’s player to reach three figures in total runs this season, Clarke has shown consistency at the top of the order and also scored quickly when batting at number three against Welsh Fire. He has a high score of 68 – against Trent Rockets – and has the highest strike rate in the squad, with 156.62.

The opposition

Trent Rockets Women have lost only one game from their five matches so far this season, and sit second in the table. Last time out, they beat SunRisers Leeds by five runs, led by Sophia Dunkley’s 56 and supported by Nat Sciver-Brunt’s 33.

The Men’s team are also flying high, currently topping the table with just one defeat which came on the opening day against the Phoenix. England opener Ben Duckett is the competition’s highest scorer, with 240 runs, including three half centuries.
