Phoenix restricted their Welsh visitors to 144/3 from their 100 balls, and captain Perry hit the winning runs with one ball to spare to send a sold out Edgbaston Stadium into raptures.
England star Capsey registered her first 50 in Phoenix colours before being caught by Heather Graham off the bowling of Georgia Voll for 51 and despite feeling frustrated at giving away her wicket, was pleased with how she approached the match-winning partnership.
“We’re very happy. It’s been a bit of a slow start for us, but to get over the line in this game at home is great, and we’ve had an amazing crowd here today as well,” Capsey said. “It just feels like we’re heading into a really busy period now, and getting that first win, hopefully we can build some momentum and move forward.
“With the first game, it was one of those you kind of had to push to the side, and then obviously a washout with the second game, so we went down to the Utilita, that was really our first proper game.
“I think in areas we were really good down at the Utilita, and it was just about not getting too stressed, sticking to what we’re good at, sticking to our plans. We knew we’ve got such a deep batting lineup, and especially at Edgbaston, if you get in, it’s really hard to contain, especially defending a total.”
Seven-time World Cup winner Perry led from the front with a sublime unbeaten 68 from 46, and she was pleased to give the home crowd something to cheer about.
“It is lovely to have the win at home, amazing atmosphere here today. I thought we did pretty well to restrict the Fire there with our bowling and then we just timed it at the end to get over the line.
"The results haven't been there for us but we've had a lot of fun as a group. Today was another cool opportunity and a nice challenge.
"Partnerships are crucial and the way Alice batted today was outstanding. To have the opportunity there to take it deep and have a chance in the last 10. It was a great contest."
