New Zealand to visit Edgbaston for ODI in 2027
Edgbaston Stadium will host the opening fixture of the highly anticipated Men’s One Day International Series between England and New Zealand on Tuesday 14 September 2027.
It marks the conclusion of a packed international summer schedule at The People’s Home of Cricket, with two of the best 50-over teams set to go head-to-head.
With 70% of tickets already sold, here’s why you should make sure you’re there next year…
Two outstanding teams
NZ ODI
New Zealand are one of the best teams in ODI cricket and currently sit second in the ICC Men’s ODI Rankings. In major tournaments they always contend, and in recent years have produced several stand-out performances across ODIs. The best of those arguably came last year, when they travelled to India and beat the number one ranked team on their own patch in a three-match series 2-1.
England meanwhile are playing their best white ball cricket for a number of years, and will be looking to continue that trend when New Zealand visit next year. They’ve won each of their last three series, including a 2-1 win over India in England earlier this summer.
World’s best white-ball players
Jofra Archer (2)
Between the two squads, some of the finest players in world cricket will be on show. England’s line-up will be stacked, with the likes of Harry Brook, Jos Butler and Joe Root leading the batting charge, while the pace of Jofra Archer and the skill of Adil Rashid will be crucial with the ball.
New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell is in fine form with the bat and has climbed to second in the ODI Rankings thanks to a special 2026. He’s scored one century, six half centuries and has a staggering average of 94.60 over the past ten months. He’ll lead the charge with the bat, while captain Mitchell Santner will do so with the ball and his quality left arm off spin.
A World Cup year
2027 WC
The series between England and New Zealand precedes the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup. That means both teams will be fine-tuning ahead of the biggest 50-over competition in world cricket.
The World Cup takes place across South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia and begins on 2 October, shortly after the two teams play at Edgbaston. It’s a final opportunity for players to impress ahead of World Cup selection.
