Westwood looking to carry form into Glamorgan test as Bears remain in title contention

Warwickshire County Cricket Club Head Coach, Ian Westwood, is looking for his team to continue their Rothesay County Championship title charge when they travel to Cardiff to take on Glamorgan at Sophia Gardens this week.

Play gets under way at 10:30am on Tuesday 8 September with the 12th round of County Championship fixtures, as the Bears look to follow up last week’s dominant innings and 129-run victory with another win.

That result saw the Bears close the gap at the top of the table to five points, with Somerset currently leading the way and defending champions Nottinghamshire one point above Warwickshire in second.

Westwood was delighted with the qualities his team showed in their resounding win last week, as they wrapped up victory inside three days, and is looking forward to the coming weeks with his side in the mix at the top of the table.

“We wanted to be brave and play some good cricket, and I think we did that with a lot of skill, a lot of determination and it is our most dominant performance of the season,” he said.

"There was a bit in the pitch if you bowled really well. We bowled well and caught well and having Manav [Suthar] back in the ranks was great - he is a classy operator.

"When you make a team follow on it rarely happens as easy as it did in the first innings. We knew we had to work hard and keep chipping away to create a window to get a flurry of wickets. And that is what happened.

"I'm so pleased with the amount of effort we put in and at this stage of the season, to win in three days and get a day off, is going to be really important.

"We know we are in the hunt. We’ve started this block of six games pretty well. We are playing some good cricket, and this win should give us a lot of confidence."
