Warwickshire v Surrey (h) – One Day Cup preview

Warwickshire will be looking to pick up a first win of the 2026 Metro Bank One Day Cup when they take on Surrey at Edgbaston on Wednesday 29 July.

Last outing

Warwickshire were well-beaten by Somerset last time out. Batting first, Somerset put up a testing total of 337 for eight from their 50 overs, with Jake Lintott (3-69) and Ethan Bamber (2-54) the pick of the Bears bowlers. In reply, Warwickshire were unable to build any substantial partnerships despite 44 from Kai Smith and a well-made 52 from Lintott as they were dismissed for 212.

While the Bears are searching for their first win, Surrey have won two from three to start the 50-over season. In their last match, Benji Floros took four for 60 with the ball, and 83 from Adam Thomas with the bat helped Surrey topple Northants at Guildford.

Previous meeting

It was two years ago that Warwickshire last played Surrey in the One Day Cup, with the two teams playing out a thriller at Rugby School that went right down to the wire.

Michael Burgess (60) and Chris Benjamin (75) both struck 50s for the Bears, and with contributions from Will Rhodes (44), Hamza Shaikh (39) and Rob Yates (40), they reached 311 for nine from 50 overs.

A brilliant 149 from Dom Sibley at the top of the order for Surrey looked to have put the visitors in control of the chase, but a disciplined display from the Bears’ bowling unit saw Surrey end their chase three runs short, with one wicket remaining.

Bear to watch

Jake Lintott

Lintott has arguably been the Bears’ form player in this year’s One Day Cup. After missing out in the first match, he came in for the second game against Nottinghamshire, marking his return to the side by taking three for 55. He followed that with another three-fer last time out, while adding his second List A 50 with the bat.
