Warwickshire seamer Henry Brookes joins Middlesex

Henry Brookes has joined Middlesex on a three-year deal.

Solihull-born Brookes has been with the Club since joining the Warwickshire Pathway at the Under-10s age group, progressing through to the professional ranks in 2017.

After making his First Class debut that year, Brookes has featured in all three formats, earning his Second XI Cap as well as being a member of the 2021 LV= Insurance County Championship and 2018 LV= Insurance Division Two winning squads.

However, in recent years, opportunities have been hard to come by and the Club has agreed to release the 24-year-old from his contract at the end of the year in order to pursue more regular first team cricket with Middlesex.

“He’s been in and out of the side and, at 24, he feels he needs more regular cricket and a fresh start. Losing one of our own hurts, but we also have to respect where Henry is in terms of his career.

“It’s frustrating for any player if they’re not playing regularly. We’ve got a good attack when everyone is fit so the competition for a starting spot is tough. When we became aware a Club was interested in signing Henry, we had to listen. We have to do what’s best for the Club but also what’s best for the individual. We did agree with Henry that if a Club could offer him regular cricket then it was in his best interests to consider a move.

“We hope Henry kicks on and becomes that bowler we know he can be. There will be nobody more pleased than us if he goes on to great things. He goes with all our best wishes and thanks for everything he’s done for Warwickshire.”

Brookes started his cricketing career with Olton & West Warwickshire CC, before moving to Knowle & Dorridge CC in 2016. The Tudor Grange School pupil made 99 appearances across all formats, taking 172 wickets and scoring 1,019 runs.

“It was an incredibly difficult decision, but ultimately I want to be playing as much cricket as possible,” said Brookes. “Speaking to Middlesex, I believe there’s an opportunity to do that and I’m really looking forward to what’s ahead of me.”

Speaking about his decision to leave his home county, Brookes added: “Warwickshire has been my home and I’m proud to have worn the Bear & Ragged Staff.

“To all the coaches, players, staff who have helped me in my career, thank you. I have made many friends here and I wish the Club plenty of success.”
