George tops 50-over run-scoring
It’s been a career-best season with the bat for Katie George, particularly in 50-over cricket, where she has amassed 698 runs across just 12 matches in the Metro Bank One Day Cup. To put that into context, George’s next best season in terms of run-scoring came in 2024 when she scored 321.
The hard work has paid off in some style for the right-handed batter, with the highlight of the campaign being a maiden List A century which came in the team’s win against Lancashire. George has more runs than anyone else in the competition, and after striking an unbeaten 101 in the final game, ends the campaign with two 100s, four 50s and an average above 77.
One-run classic
As mentioned above, the Bears’ T20 win over Lancashire was an absolute classic in Blackpool, with Warwickshire coming out one-run victors.
The victory was set up by Nat Wraith who smashed a 48-ball 83 after the Bears had won the toss and opted to bat first. Reaching 160 for nine from their 20 overs, the game was evenly poised with Lancs yet to bat. Mary Taylor and Georgia Davis removed both Lancs openers, however 73 from Tilly Kesteven pulled the home side back into the contest. Kesteven almost got her team home, however when she was dismissed by Taylor with the score on 156, Lancs needed five from the final three balls. Taylor was up to the challenge though, holding her nerve to concede just three more as the Bears sealed a win by the smallest of margins.
Pavely’s run of form
Stylish left-handed batter, Charis Pavely, was arguably the most in-form player in domestic cricket across April and May. In a six-game stretch in the Metro Bank One Day Cup, 21-year-old Pavely compiled scores of 63*, 26, 128*, 127, 55 and 63, while also taking key wickets with her left arm off-spin.
Pavely, who recently signed a two-year extension to stay with the Club until at least the end of 2028, ended the 50-over campaign with 694 runs at an average of 49.57.
Bears fightback
While a difficult start curtailed any hope of progression for the Bears in the Women’s Vitality Blast T20 competition, the side showed plenty of character to reel off three successive wins in the middle of the campaign. Half-centuries from Davina Perrin and Abbey Freeborn and three wickets apiece for Mary Taylor and Georgia Davis helped the side get off the mark in the competition with a comprehensive 42-run win over Surrey, before they edged a classic by one-run over Lancashire.
The third win in a row came against Essex, where Amu Surenkumar’s three wickets helped restrict Essex to 116 before an unbeaten 43 from Australian Georgia Redmayne saw the Bears to a five-wicket win.
Brett’s brilliance
At only 18 years old, Phoebe Brett has long been talked about as one for the future. Her form, particularly towards the end of the Metro Bank One Day Cup, has shown what’s to come.
The left-arm finger spinner found turn and plenty of control to take three for 59 in the team’s win against Yorkshire, and then took two for 51 against The Blaze in their next fixture. Brett continued that good form in her next outing against Essex at Edgbaston, taking career-best First Class fixtures of four for 42.
