Tammy Beaumont reflects on Phoenix frustration

Tammy Beaumont admits frustration is growing in the Birmingham Phoenix camp after the side suffered a fourth consecutive defeat in The Hundred.

Phoenix suffered a fourth defeat of the competition on Friday, losing by nine wickets to SunRisers Leeds at Edgbaston after being restricted to 107 before their visitors chased the target down with ease.

Despite assembling what she believes is a talented squad, Beaumont said the team has been unable to translate its potential into performances on the field.

"Looking at our squad going into this, I thought we had a really good chance of competing," Beaumont said. "That is The Hundred... if you don't have people in the right form at the right time, it maybe just doesn't click. Sometimes you have to take it on the chin and keep trying.

"We have a completely different squad - you cannot throw them all into the same room and expect them to gel straightaway. It's an amazing group of people, a lovely group who are really getting on. The cricket just hasn't happened, which is really disappointing.

"There has been frustration and tears behind the scenes because we genuinely care about putting performances on, but it just hasn't happened."

Phoenix's total was built around contributions from Emma Lamb, who top-scored with 46, and Ellyse Perry, who added 31, but regular wickets prevented the hosts from posting a more competitive target.

Pakistan international Fatima Sana felt Phoenix were left with too much to do after their early setbacks and believed the side fell well short of a defendable score.

"I think we were maybe 20 or 30 runs short," Sana said. "We lost early wickets and that is why we were lacking.

"Our batters played some good shots, but we need to play according to the situation."

SunRisers made light work of the chase, with Phoebe Litchfield producing an outstanding unbeaten 71 to guide her side to victory with nine wickets and 25 balls to spare.

Sana praised the Australian opener's innings, adding: "Phoebe Litchfield played such a good innings. The way she played, you cannot set a field for the next ball because she played so many different shots and it's difficult as a bowler."
