Stonehouse makes permanent switch to Warwickshire

Warwickshire Bears Women have signed exciting left arm quick bowler Alexa Stonehouse on a two-year deal from Surrey.

The 21-year-old has spent the 2026 season on loan at the Bears and after impressing in her time with the Club, will join on a permanent basis for the 2027 and 2028 seasons.

Stonehouse has made 17 appearances across formats for Warwickshire this year, taking 16 wickets, with 13 of those coming in the Metro Bank One Day Cup.

Having developed through the South East Stars Academy, Stonehouse signed for Surrey ahead of the 2025 season, playing 19 times for The Kia Oval side in her first year, helping them to win the inaugural Vitality Blast title before joining the Bears on loan for 2026.

As an outstanding prospect, Stonehouse was selected to represent England at the 2023 ICC Under-19 T20 World Cup, taking six wickets at an average of 11.33, and has since gone on to represent England A.

Stonehouse will look to play a key role next season, with the Bears competing in the Metro Bank One Day Cup, the T20 Vitality Blast and the second season of the Vitality T20 County Cup.

Warwickshire Bears Women Head Coach, Ali Maiden, said: “Alexa has been a breath of fresh air since joining on loan at the start of this season, so to make the move a permanent one is great news for us.

“While only 21, she has a wealth of experience already, and we’ve seen first-hand throughout 2026 how important that can be for us in the coming years.

"The signing of Alexa, who has been a regular feature in England A teams and squads, is another example of us working to recruit the next generation of England cricketers.

“With several players signing contract extensions in recent weeks, confirming the signing of Alexa is another important step for the team as we build towards next season.”

Speaking about signing with the Bears, Stonehouse added: “I’m delighted to be joining Warwickshire permanently after spending the 2026 season here on loan.

“Ali and the team have been incredibly supportive since I joined the Club, and I’ve loved training and competing in this environment, so it’s really pleasing that this will now be home for the next two seasons.
