Sam Hain (17)
Seven batting performances that powered Bears to title
Warwickshire’s Championship-winning season was built on contributions from across the squad, with both bat and ball.
With the bat, there were a whole host of vital performances, from match-defining hundreds to innings that turned the course of a game.
Here are seven of the standout batting performances that helped power Warwickshire to the Rothesay County Championship title.
Dan Mousley (144 v Surrey)
Walking out at Edgbaston for the opening fixture of the campaign after Surrey had put up 328 in the first innings, Dan Mousley struck his second career First Class century to see the Bears to a mammoth 544 all out. Mousley’s 144 came from 178 balls, with his partnership of 212 alongside Sam Hain crucial to the Bears’ total. While Warwickshire couldn’t force a win from the fixture, they took 16 points from the match, setting a benchmark for the remainder of the season.
Beau Webster (91 v Essex)
In low-scoring games, every run counts, and after losing to Sussex the previous week, Beau Webster’s 91 against Essex proved vital in the Bears securing their first win of the season. Warwickshire trailed by 15 runs after the first innings before Webster contributed 91 of the Bears’ 220 all out in the second innings. The highest individual score in the game helped to move the needle in Warwickshire’s favour, with the Bears eventually winning by 41 runs.
Ed Barnard (165 v Notts)
While Ed Barnard’s contribution - which would end up being the highest individual score by a Warwickshire player in four-day cricket this season – didn’t see the Bears to victory, it helped them to a positive result against the defending champions. With Notts also in the title race, Barnard’s first innings 165 put Warwickshire in control, and showed their title credentials. The Bears took 16 points from the fixture to Notts’ 11.
Sam Hain (164* v Yorkshire)
Warwickshire’s leading run-scorer in 2026 was at his best against Yorkshire at Edgbaston, notching an unbeaten 164 that catapulted the Bears to a devastating 377-run victory. Trailing by five runs after the first innings, Hain helped steer the Bears to a huge 566 for six declared, which proved far too much for Yorkshire. It was a statement win at The People’s Home of Cricket.
Chris Woakes (23* v Sussex)
While not the highest score from a Bears player this season, Chris Woakes’ 23 not out at Edgbaston against Sussex will go down as arguably one of the most important contributions. After a two-month break in the competition, Warwickshire needed 203 to win and maintain their title push against a Sussex team that had beaten them early in the season. Woakes came in with the team 156 for six. They were then reduced to 156 for seven, 179 for eight and then 202 for nine. Alongside number 11 Olly Hannon-Dalby, the duo faced 13 agonising deliveries with one run required, before Woakes edged Unadkat for the winning four.
Rob Yates (109 v Hampshire)
Batting first against Hampshire in the first of three away matches at the business end of the season, Rob Yates set the tone with a brilliant 109 from 208 balls. The left-handed opener struck 13 fours and one six as the Bears reached 398 all out. The bowling unit would then follow his lead, dismissing Hampshire for 115 and 154 respectively, as the Bears won by an innings and 129 runs. That would be the first of four successive victories to end the title-winning season.
Sam Hain (142 v Leicestershire)
Needing a win against Leicestershire at Edgbaston on the final week of the season to win the title, Sam Hain stepped up like he so often has for the Club. After dismissing Leicestershire for 125 on the opening day, Hain came to the crease with the Bears at 22 for two in their reply. He would eventually be the last wicket of the innings to fall having carved out a faultless 142 from 301 balls in an innings that lasted just over seven hours. His partnership of 165 with Ed Barnard altered the course of the game, and his innings – and reaction to reaching three figures – will go down in Bears history.
