Sam Hain to captain Warwickshire in One Day Cup

Warwickshire County Cricket Club is pleased to announce that Sam Hain will captain the Bears during the Metro Bank One Day Cup.

The 30-year-old will lead the Bears in place of Ed Barnard due to the Club Captain’s The Hundred commitments with Sunrisers Leeds.

Hain made his Bears debut in 2013 and has been a vital player for the Club across all three formats since.

With over 3,000 List A runs, Hain has 17 50s and ten 100s in the 50-over format, and his average of 57.76 is one of the best in England.

He was part of the last Bears team to lift the One Day Cup title in 2016, making 86 in the semi-final to help see the Bears into the final before they triumphed by eight wickets against Surrey.

Hain takes up the role in good form, having scored 306 runs at an average of 43 across the Bears’ Vitality Blast campaign.

Speaking about being named captain, Hain said: “It’s always a proud moment when you get to lead any team out, so to be able to do it for Warwickshire, a Club that I’ve been with for well over a decade, will be special.

“I’m excited by the group that we have. There’s a good mix of very good young players and quality experience, which I think is needed for any team to be successful.

“I remember being part of the team that won the trophy in 2016, and that’s certainly the aim this year. We have the players to be able to do it, so hopefully we can put everything together.”

Rob Yates, who came through the academy at Warwickshire and has spent 16 years with the Club, has been appointed as Vice-Captain for the campaign.

The Bears begin their Metro Bank One Day Cup competition with a trip to the cinch County Ground to take on Northamptonshire Steelbacks on Tuesday 21 July.
