Robinson: "All the talk was how can we win in three days"

First Team Coach Mark Robinson was pleased with his side’s intent as the Bears came away with a draw against Somerset in Taunton.

Losing the opening day and first hour of the second to bad weather, plus the toss, Warwickshire were the aggressors throughout the three days, putting the hosts under real pressure.

Somerset faced a 108-run deficit heading in to third innings, but despite restricting them 92/5, the Bears couldn’t make the all important breakthrough.

“We’ve played with good purpose, good intent and the only poor period we had was on that first day in the last hour. We’ve probably bossed the game which is good signs for the season to come.”

Further positives involved both the batting and bowling units.

Alex Davies and Sam Hain fired centuries, whilst the bowlers, who included three debutants, shared the wickets.

“Alex Davies didn’t have the year that he’d have wanted when he arrived so it’s great for him. Sam is our Mr Consistent and will build on all the work he did last year."

And the bowlers?

“They all did their jobs and they will be better for it,” Robinson concluded. “They were a bit leggy on the first day, but a part from that really good.

“Hassan Ali has burst on the scene like a hurricane, he’s such a big character. Rushy (Chris Rushworth) is Rushy. He showed his experience and skill.

“Ed Barnard is such a good signing as gives us balance and was really impressive in the game. We’ve missed that all-rounder and they’re so important. I was brought up in my time with great Warwickshire all-rounders such as Pop Welch and Keith Barker. They’re good bowlers, who can bat and give you depth in the line-up.
