Warwickshire return to red ball action with a local derby at New Road knowing victory can lift them towards the top three of the Vitality County Championship Division One table.

But the Bears make the short trip to in-form Worcestershire - who've won their last three County Championship games - without the services of England pair Dan Mousley and Jacob Bethell.

The all-rounders have been called up to England's white ball series against Australia which gets underway with an IT20 in Southampton on Wednesday.

Bethell - part of the IT20 and ODI squads - will miss the remainder of the Bears season but Mousley is in line to return to Edgbaston next week ahead of the final home game against Essex.

An innings win against Kent last time out put Warwickshire closer to the top three of the County Championship than the bottom two.

And First Team Coach Mark Robinson said he wants his side to finish the campaign strongly after the disappointment of Friday’s Blast Quarter Final defeat.

“There was a lot of hurt after Friday,” added Robinson. “We know that’s a game we should have won from the halfway point, it’s one that got away but we can’t do anything about it now. We have to move on, you look for leaders in the group to help with that.

“But we won’t underestimate Worcestershire. They are a team in form, so we’ll have to be at our best to pull off a result.

“We’ll miss Beth and Dan, it’ll affect the balance of the side from a spinning perspective, but their England call-up gives people like Hamza Shaikh an opportunity.

“Hamza played against Somerset and looked the part. He did well for England Lions, getting close to a debut First Class 100, and against the West Indies for an FCC Select XI. So he’s got red ball pedigree despite being only 18-years-old.”

Warwickshire have no injury concerns ahead of Monday’s trip and Robinson names a 13-player squad with Danny Briggs and Jake Lintott, alongside Shaikh, coming into contention.
