Metro Bank One Day Cup fever sweeps to deep Warwickshire for the first time in almost a decade as the Bears host Surrey in the first of three matches played at Rugby School.

The picturesque outground, which last hosted its county in 2015 when the Bears won a One Day Cup clash against Sussex, will be sold out to a 3,000 capacity. Only ticket holders will have access to this match.

With a community festival feel and the hot weather expected to continue, it promises to be an exciting day for everyone involved.

“It’s great to be here as the club belongs to the county,” said First Team Coach Mark Robinson. “It’s fantastic we can take the cricket club to the far reaches and play in front of a great crowd.

“We’ve played at Neath and York in recent years, and being a part of the Yorkshire and Sussex environment previously, I know how great the experience will be, especially for the younger players.

“We had the community game this week at Stratford-upon-Avon and you can feel the connection between the fans and Members. I’m sure they’ll enjoy the special occasion.”

Robinson has named an unchanged squad as the Bears continue to impress in the white ball game.

After topping the North Group and earning a home quarter-final in the Vitality Blast, the team have continued the feel-good factor with three wins on the road.

Sitting joint top after the demanding start, the Bears, built around a mix of experience and exciting talent, have an opportunity to push for the knockout stages.

“We haven’t played here for some time, so there will be unknowns, but we’ll be ready for the challenges,” added Robinson. “Surrey has started poorly, but they could have three internationals, Rory Burns, Ben Foakes, and Dominic Sibley, which will bring a lot of quality. It’ll be up to us to read the situation quickly and adapt when needed.

“Winning becomes a habit and some of the players who weren’t involved in the Blast have been excited to play as it’s a competition for them to win.

“Kai and Hamza are young, yet they’ve played in the competition before and have grown from it. They feel a bit of belonging. Kai played lovely on Sunday to help us get over the line in a tight one and Hamza has the not out from Friday. Taz has also bowled well and Theo has had two games to feel his way in.

“It’s an exciting time as we’re trying to win games but grow the future too.”
