Warwickshire return to Edgbaston on Wednesday, looking to build on last week’s three-day LV= Insurance County Championship victory over Kent.

With valuable rest in the legs, the squad are refreshed ahead of an exciting couple of weeks back at base with Lancashire up first and Middlesex arriving on Tuesday.

The Bears currently sit in third, playing a game less than Surrey and Essex, and only 23 points behind the former. An opportunity to accrue more points in a title chase ahead of the Metro Bank One Day Cup certainly presents itself.

“Lancashire are a fighting team with a good attitude, but very aggressive,” said Mark Robinson. “They lost out narrowly to Essex last week chasing a victory so we know it’ll be a tough challenge.

“We did well against Kent especially as we had to bowl them out twice. You could see in their second innings how hard that was, but we kept fighting and got our rewards.

“We’ve rested up, trained when we can, and we’re pleased to be back home, whilst looking forward to the opportunity of closing the gap on the teams above us.”

Pakistan left-armer Mir Hamza is in line to make his Bears debut, having trained with the squad on Monday and Tuesday. Glenn Maxwell has returned to Australia following his overseas stint, but there’s good news with Danny Briggs recovering from a hamstring injury.

Dan Mousley also returns, having missed the Kent clash with a hand injury.

“We’ve had a lot of personnel changes in recent weeks,” the First Team Coach added. “Hassan departed and Glenn has returned to Australia having stepped in, but we welcome Mir into the group and Briggsy is back from his injury.

“Dan’s had his stitches out although he’s not quite back to where he was. It’s still fresh so he won’t be in the slips, but he’s fit to play which is good news. We’re still lacking with Liam Norwell and Craig Miles still unavailable, but should be available during the 50-over competition.

“We’ll look at the wicket, see what kind of surface we’re playing on, and plan accordingly.”
