Preview: Somerset v Warwickshire, Friendly

Warwickshire resume their LV= Insurance County Championship campaign, away to Lancashire, tomorrow top of the table and ready for a serious tilt at bringing the title to Edgbaston for only the eighth time in the Club's history.

Will Rhodes' side will face the Red Rose at the head of the elite group thanks to points they collected off fellow-qualifiers Nottinghamshire in the first segment of the red-ball season.

Then will come games against Hampshire (home), Yorkshire (away) and Somerset (home). They are all tough opponents and there is much work to do, but the Bears are in with a real chance of lifting their first championship title since 2012.

"This is exactly where we wanted to be at this stage when we looked ahead at the start of the season," said skipper Rhodes. "The lads have played some fantastic red ball cricket in the first ten games and we are really excited to get back to it.

"We are top of the table and that is a great position to be in so if we can get a win or a strong draw in Manchester it will keep us right up there.

"Lancashire are a good team who have mastered how to play at Old Trafford and that's all credit to them. We have just got to come up with a plan and play well enough to execute it. We have won games on dry pitches this season and we feel that we can win matches in any conditions."

With Olly Stone, Henry Brookes and Olly Hannon-Dalby injured, the pace attack has been reinforced by the addition of West Indian international Chemar Holder.

The 23-year-old has just arrived from the Caribbean where he was in the West Indian Test squad for the Test series against Pakistan. Tall and quick, he will bring another dimension to the seam options at Rhodes' disposal while the return of Dom Sibley will bring international quality at the top of the batting order.

Into the final month of the season, the Bears have it all to play for - the championship title and a place in the Lord's showpiece match between the top-two finishers in the last week of September.

"We have a lot of hard cricket to play against some very good teams," said Rhodes. "But we are in with a chance.

"It would be amazing to win the championship. I think, if we do, I will tell Farby that I am retiring because it couldn't get any better than that!

"As a captain, you want to lead your side to trophies. We are in the mix and that's not because of me, it's because of the squad we have who are such an easy side to captain because they are such good cricketers and good blokes."
