Phoenix’s Currie and Ahmed impress as England Lions topple West Indies A in T20 series

The Lions won each match, doing so by eight wickets, 17 runs and 96 runs, with Currie and Ahmed two of England’s standout players across the three fixtures.

In the series opener, Currie took 3/11 from 3.4 overs, and despite going wicketless, Ahmed’s four overs went for just 14 runs as the West Indies were bowled out for 98. Ahmed then struck 29 from 24 balls as England reached their total two wickets down.

Currie came to the fore again with the ball in the second T20, as England made sure of a series win. Ahmed scored 31 from 21 balls earlier in the piece as England were bowled out for 151.

The West Indies were going well but Currie altered the course of the match, taking 3/17 from four overs, including the key wicket of Alick Athanaze who was motoring on 43 from 30 balls before being bowled by the right arm quick. Once Athanaze was dismissed, West Indies’ chase stalled, and they eventually fell 17 runs short of their target.

An all-round display from Ahmed in the final match of the T20 series saw England ease to a 96-run win.

Batting first, England made 219/7 from their 20 overs thanks largely to Ahmed’s blistering 46-ball 92. His innings included five fours and eight sixes and saw him put on 112 for the third wicket with James Rew who struck 57 from 37.

He then picked up 2/16 from four overs with his leg spin, while Currie took his seventh wicket of the series, as England dismissed West Indies for 123.

Both Currie and Ahmed are both in the squad for the five-match One Day Series against West Indies A which begins on Saturday 7 November at Warner Park in St Kitts.
