Perrin hoping Phoenix can learn from Southern Brave loss

Davina Perrin is hoping Birmingham Phoenix Women can regroup ahead of their next match after they fell to a 24-run loss against in-form Southern Brave at the Utilita Bowl in Southampton.

Phoenix did well to restrict the Brave, who have now won all four of their opening fixtures of this year’s The Hundred, to 140 from their 100 balls, with Alice Capsey, Alana King and Lauren Filer all impressing with the ball.

In reply, Perrin and Tammy Beaumont combined to put on 73 for the first wicket, with Perrin going on to score 53 off 43 balls before she was dismissed.

Despite her innings, the Phoenix struggled to find the boundary towards the end of their innings, and ended on 116 for five, 24 runs short.

Perrin, who struck the second fastest century in The Hundred history last year, is expecting the team to bounce back next time out.

“It's not an easy ground to chase on, but you still have got to give them credit where it’s due,” she said.

“Having to chase on that deck was never going to be the easiest thing to do, so I think for us maybe a few things went wrong or didn't go our way.

“It's how we learn from that and how we move forward and take those learnings into our next game because I'm sure we'll come back stronger.”

Perrin, who missed a large part of the Vitality Blast due to injury, says she is back to full fitness, and was pleased with the way she played on a tricky pitch.

“I was feeling quite rusty up until today with missing the Blast, being injured and having a lot of the season out,” she added. “Today was a nice bit of confidence that I can take forward with me.

“Being out there, bowlers are always going to put it on a spot, but it was really nice to be out there, be comfortable and remember how it feels.”
