Pakistan seamer Jamal leaves Warwickshire due to injury

Warwickshire have parted company with Pakistan seamer Aamir Jamal after diagnosis of a back injury revealed he’d be sidelined for the remainder of his contract.

Jamal joined the Bears in April after a stunning debut on Pakistan's winter tour of Australia where he claimed 18 wickets in three Tests.

However, a back injury has limited his playing opportunities at Edgbaston.

The 27-year-old managed to play in just two County Championship matches and one Vitality Blast game.

Warwickshire Performance Director Gavin Larsen said it’s been a frustrating period for Jamal and the Club.

“Aamir has worked incredibly hard with our medical and strength and conditioning team,” added Larsen, “but unfortunately, we’ve run out of time to get him back on the field and bowling at full pace.

“He was contracted until the end of the Blast group stage on July 19, but his rehab plan indicated he would not be fit for selection before then.

“We can’t fault Aamir’s attitude during his rehab. I am confident he will return fit and ready to represent Pakistan soon. We wish him all the best.”

Jamal expressed his gratitude towards Warwickshire’s medical and rehab team for their efforts to restore his fitness.

“This is my first experience with a significant injury, and it’s been challenging to accept,” he said. “I’m now focused on getting back to full fitness and resuming play.
