Pakistan fight back to take Third Test into fourth day at Edgbaston

Pakistan produced their best batting display of the series on day three of the final Rothesay Test at Edgbaston Stadium to take the match into the fourth day.

Having started the day 268 runs behind with eight second-innings wickets remaining, the visitors forced their way back into the contest before they were eventually dismissed for 449, leaving England 130 runs to win on day four.

Opener Azan Awais played nicely for 59, before Shan Masood and Babar Azam propelled Pakistan to 214 for three before Masood departed five runs shy of a century to a spectacular one-handed diving catch at gully off the bowling of Gus Atkinson.

Babar was classy for his 76, yet was discomforted when England went to a short-ball plan either side of tea. His dismissal to a Josh Tongue bouncer seemed to confirm a three-day finish, but Test debutant Razaullah had other ideas.

Razaullah clubbed a 43-ball half-century with his nine sixes tying Ben Stokes' record for the number of maximums in a Test innings in England.

The 21-year-old shared an eighth-wicket stand of 121 with Muhammad Abbas, who also hit two sixes on his way to a Test best of 42.

Razaullah was the last wicket to fall for Pakistan, stumped off the bowling of Dan Lawrence, meaning England will need to return on Saturday as they target a clean sweep in the series.
