Cricket fan Andy Street again hosted the tournament, which aims to unite different generations and communities across the region, reflecting the West Midlands diversity and encouraging people of all ages to keep active.

Sponsored by Cadent, the UK’s largest gas distribution network, Edgbaston opened its doors for a 12 team cricket tournament on Sunday 18 September, which saw the teams named after current Warwickshire Men’s First Team.

The tournament is organised by the Edgbaston Foundation, the official charity of Edgbaston and Warwickshire County Cricket Club, with the the Warwickshire Cricket board providing professional coaches and umpires on the day.

Fidelis Navas, Community Director at Edgbaston said, “We’re so pleased to have organised this brilliant fun day again, where cricket brings everyone together. It was a great atmosphere where everyone was supported regardless of ability and I hope the players enjoyed creating a piece of Edgbaston history in this wonderful summer of sport.”

Street said: “Our region had a spectacular moment of collective celebration this summer as millions tuned in to see the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games. Cricket at Edgbaston was a real highlight of these Games and I'm so pleased that - through this Cricket Cup - we have a wonderful opportunity to once again bring people and communities together for a great day of sport.

"It's truly special that we're able to give local youngsters - and the not so young - the chance to experience live sporting action at what is an iconic and fantastic facility”.

Elliott Nelson, Director of the West Midlands Network at Cadent said: “The Mayor’s Cricket Cup is a great idea to bring together different generations - an element which made the pause in memory to Her Majesty the Queen a fitting tribute to start the day.

"We we’re delighted with the number of people who took part, and our thanks go to Mayor Andy Street and Edgbaston for the opportunity to support such a worthwhile event.”
