Ferreira keen to learn and move on after Super Giants defeat

Birmingham Phoenix skipper Donovan Ferreira is shifting focus onto their next challenge in The Hundred against Southern Brave after falling to an 87-run defeat against Manchester Super Giants.

Phoenix were chasing 188 to win at Emirates Old Trafford after the home side posted 187-5 from their 100 balls, led by England star Jos Buttler with a sublime innings of 90 from 50 balls. Rehan Ahmed was the pick of the bowlers with 2-43.

In reply, the Phoenix never really got going, with Joe Clarke scoring 20 from 17 at the top of the order and Ferreira top scoring with 23, but it was never going to be enough against a strong bowling attack who wrapped up the innings for 100 with three balls to spare.

Speaking post-match, Ferreira insisted the Phoenix will not dwell on the result on a day where the Women’s team was abandoned without a ball being bowled and the home side ultimately dealt with the conditions better than the visitors.

“I think we left ourselves a little short there,” Ferreira said. “I think there's areas that we can improve, but these things happen. We can't win every game.

“From the start, we need to keep learning, we need to keep growing as a team. We need to stick together. They used their home conditions really well and it’s testament to them, they did really well. We'll take it and just move on to the next game.
