England Women seal clean sweep against West Indies

England began their home summer campaign with a convincing 6-0 series victory over West Indies.

After a winter to forget, Charlotte Edward’s England side were back on home soil to face a West Indies outfit that posed a different challenge to the new reign.

There was a statement needing to be made when England returned to home soil for the first time under new coach and Captain. This is exactly what happened with a clean sweep across T20 and ODI formats.

However this is all too familiar for England fans, who saw the same result from Edward’s predecessor Jon Lewis. Despite that, England fans saw promising signs from the rebuild.

With Sophie Ecclestone missing out due to injury, Linsey Smith was handed an opportunity which she grabbed with both hands and picked up her first international five-wicket haul on ODI debut.

Across the two games Smith played, her economy was comfortably the lowest at 3.15 per over. Providing Charlotte Edwards a bit of thinking to do ahead of a busy summer.

Another star of the series, Em Arlott, stepped up to the international stage and showed her class against an impressive West Indies top order.

On debut, picking up the wicket of Hayley Matthews for your first international wicket isn’t something many bowlers can claim. Across both series Arlott totaled 10 wickets (4 IT20, 6 ODI), adding another seam option for Edward’s to turn to.

When appointed, the former England Captain, Charlotte Edwards, made it clear that England needed to smarten up their approach to 50-over cricket. Her first move was to promote Amy Jones back to the opening partnership, alongside Tammy Beaumont. Together they are the third-most successful ODI pair, scoring 1,786 runs in 30 innings.

Jones has had a long wait for her first international century but 2025 is the year, 264 matches later, Jones reached three figures. Her wait for the second century for England was much shorter, coming the very next game. This left Jones amassing a total of 251 runs with a strike rate of 114.61.

All signs point in a positive direction for this next chapter in England’s form book. The imminent arrival of India will test the resilience of the side and bring fans another exciting home series to get behind the Edwards era.
