Edgbaston to host 15th successive Blast Finals Day as T20 competition celebrates 25th anniversary

Next year, Edgbaston Stadium will play host to T20 Vitality Blast Finals Day for the 15th successive season, as the competition marks its 25th anniversary.

The Ballot is now open. It’s free to apply, with Finals Day one of four Major Match Days coming to Edgbaston in 2027.

Edgbaston became the official home of Finals Day in 2013, ten years on from the competitions inaugural season, and in the 14 years since, huge hitting, dramatic finishes, fancy dress and a packed Hollies Stand have become synonymous with one of the best days in the domestic cricket calendar.

Northants have triumphed on Finals Day more than any other team at Edgbaston in the last 14 editions of the competition, winning earlier this year thanks to an inspired David Willey. That was their third victory at Edgbaston after wins in 2013 and 2016.

In 2014 Warwickshire Bears secured their maiden T20 title in front of huge home support, doing so against Lancashire by just four runs in a barnstorming final. A Lancashire line-up that included Jos Buttler, Usman Khawaja, Andrew Flintoff and James Anderson couldn’t topple the Bears, who had the likes of Ian Bell, Rikki Clarke, Chris Woakes and Ateeq Javid in their side.

Lancashire returned the following year to win their first T20 title though, doing so against Northants in another classic that was decided by 13 runs as they successfully defended 166 thanks to a complete bowling performance.

The tightest final in Blast history came in 2022 and also involved Lancashire, with Hampshire earning a one-run win at The People’s Home of Cricket. There was drama right until the last ball. Lancashire needed four off the final ball, however a no-ball with the final delivery of the game kept any celebration at bay. Lancs held their nerve though when the final legitimate ball was bowled, as they edged a classic.

In recent years it’s been Somerset that have been the team to beat, with the Taunton outfit winning in 2023 and 2025 respectively. In 2025, a stunning assault from Will Smeed, who struck 94 off 58 deliveries saw Somerset chase a record 195-runs for victory against Hampshire. They came close to becoming the first team to go win back-to-back titles, but lost out to eventual winners Northants in the semi-final earlier this year.
