A fast-moving first day at Edgbaston comes to a close with Warwickshire leading by five runs.
It was the perfect start to a big week for the Bears as they dismissed Leicestershire for 125, with Ethan Bamber (4-42), Chris Woakes (3-20), Olly Hannon-Dalby (1-24) and Ed Barnard (2-22) all taking wickets.
The visitors responded well though, and picked up four wickets before Hain (37*) and Barnard (25*) saw Warwickshire to the close and into a first innings lead that they'll look to build on tomorrow morning.

Warwickshire have a first innings lead. And in interesting circumstances. Ben Green's delivery to Barnard stays low, evades the wicketkeeper, who is up to the stumps, and hits his helmet which is 20 yards further back. Five to the Warwickshire total! You don't see it too often.
Hain has moved on to 36, with Barnard going along nicely on 25 from 40 deliveries. Two overs remaining in the day.

The 100 comes up for Warwickshire in the 38th over as Barnard sweeps Patel very fine for four.

After hitting Patel over the top in his previous over, Jani tries to replicate the shot, but can only skew it to mid-off.
Ed Barnard walks out, and will join Hain (26*) at the crease, with 13 overs left in the day.

Hain and Jani with a period of calm out in the middle. Hain is 25 unbeaten, while Jani has reached 18 after pumping one straight down the ground, over the top for four in the latest Ajaz Patel over.

Vansh Jani joins Sam Hain at the crease, and he gets off the mark in some style. A perfectly timed cover drive races to the boundary, and he makes it two in three balls with a cut for four, all along the floor.
Hain gets four of his own in the very next over, easing one to the cover boundary.

Leicestershire continue to fight back here at Edgbaston. Will Young is the latest to go for the Bears, as a Ben Green delivery just leaves him, catches the edge, and it's comfortably taken at first slip.

We're back under way after tea for the final session of the day. Hain and Young are at the crease with Warwickshire two down, 82 behind Leicestershire's first innings total.

Leicestershire have bowled nicely with the new ball with Holland taking the wickets of both Yates and Mousley. A big final session of the day coming up.

After losing Yates early, Dan Mousley and Will Young looked to have steadied the ship. Mousley unfurling four boundaries, coming either side of the wicket. However, Holland, who was the man to get rid of Yates, does for Mousley too, with the left hander caught low down at third slip.
Sam Hain joins Young at the crease.

After a quick turnaround, Warwickshire's opening pair of Rob Yates and Will Young make their way to the crease.
It's a tight start from Leicestershire's openers, and Yates, looking to carve one away on the off side, can only get an inside edge and he has to depart.

Leicestershire are all out for 125 with Ed Barnard taking the final wicket. Looking to turn a straight ball to the leg side, Josh Hull gets a leading edge that goes straight back to Barnard who takes a simple catch.
It's been the perfect day for the Bears so far.

Bamber gets his fourth and Warwickshire's ninth wicket!
Ajaz Patel had played a lovely straight drive earlier in the over to a full delivery, so Bamber responds by banging
one in short, and attempting a pull shot, Patel can only drag onto his stumps. 104-9.

In the very next over Warwickshire have another, and it's Woakes now with his third of the day.
A full delivery, Cox drives and it's another sharp chance at second slip for Rob Yates, who for the second time today makes no mistake. Woakes has been brilliant today, and has 3-19 from 12 overs.
Leicestershire bring up their 100, eight wickets down.

Bamber strikes again, and Leicestershire are seven down.
A back of a length ball from Bamber catches the edge of Ben Green's bat and Sam Hain holds on at the second attempt at first slip. 97-7.
Bamber now has figures of 3-32 from 14 overs today.

Breakthrough! And it's Ethan Bamber that has it. It's been a disciplined start from both Woakes and Bamber since coming out after lunch, and Bamber gets Ian Holland caught at third slip off a thick outside edge.
Earlier in the over, Holland had edged just wide of second slip. Will Young was added to the corden and three balls later, he was on hand to take the catch.
Leicestershire now 83-6.

We're back under way after the lunch break, and Chris Woakes will get us under way. A good start from the Wizard who threatens both the inside and outside edge in that over.

A really good morning for Warwickshire, with Ed Barnard's side taking five wickets. Woakes struck twice early, while Bamber, Hannon-Dalby and Barnard all took a wicket apiece as Leicestershire reach the interval on 78-5.
Leicestershire have somewhat steadied the ship having been 47-5. Ben Cox is 22 not out, and Ian Holland five not out at the break.

Make that five down! The captain Ed Barnard joins the party, and Leicestershire are in trouble at 47-5.
Budinger, who had battled well for his 27, has to play at a ball just back of a length and it catches a thick outside edge. Rob Yates does the rest, making no mistake at second slip. He takes a brilliant catch going to his left.

Olly Hannon-Dalby strikes. Kai Smith comes up to the stumps, Hannon-Dalby pushes it a little fuller and Jonny Tattersall is trapped in front.
Hannon-Dalby has his first and Leicestershire are 47-4 now.

It's been a good first hour for Warwickshire. Woakes has struck twice and Bamber once, with Leicestershire 29-3 after 14 overs.

A slightly wider, swinging delivery, and Stephen Eskinazi drives but can only do so straight to Vansh Jani at backward point who takes a good low catch. What a start.

Another one gone! This time it's Chris Woakes who strikes for the Bears in his first over of the day.
After opening his account with a boundary off Woakes' first ball, Rishi Patel offers no stroke to the last ball of the set, and a nip-backer from Woakes hits him on the pad. The finger goes up.
Leicestershire are 5-2.

Warwickshire come into the final game of the season leading Division One by 11 points from Somerset, needing 14 points from their final game to guarantee the Club's ninth County Championship title.

The final game at Edgbaston in the Rothesay County Championship for 2026 is under way, and what a start it's been for Warwickshire.
Leicestershire won the toss and opted to bat first, with Ethan Bamber striking with the fourth ball of the day.
Bamber takes his 61st wicket of the season with a beauty to get rid of Sheridon Gumbs, knocking back his off stump.
After the first over Leicestershire are 1-1.
