Cricket in the Community: Bears Roadshow rolls in to Sutton Coldfield

Bears Roadshow is heading to Sutton Coldfield with many of the Club’s first team players set to enjoy a community fun day before taking on a Warwickshire League team.

A strong Bears squad, led by Club Captain Will Rhodes, will face a Warwickshire League XI on Tuesday 1 August at Sutton Coldfield CC in a T20 contest.

The match starts at 5.30pm but the squad will be at the Rectory Road ground from 3.30pm for children’s coaching sessions and to help run an under-10s softball competition.

It follows a trip to Kenilworth Wardens in June when the Bears put on a show of big hitting as they smashed 237/8 against a Birmingham League representative side.

But the focus of the day will again be showcasing the talent in the region’s local leagues and giving young fans an opportunity to spend time with their cricketing heroes.

Bears First Team Coach Mark Robinson, said: “These events are important to the Club: we want to maintain strong links with our local sides and to inspire the future generation of cricketers.

“We’re all looking forward to another amazing roadshow event at Sutton Coldfield.”

The Warwickshire League representative side will feature leading players from clubs including Aston Manor, Bedworth, Handsworth, Olton and West Warwickshire, Rugby, Stratford-upon-Avon, Streetly, Sutton Coldfield and Walmley.

Warwickshire Cricket Board’s Schools Participation Manager Chris Kenny – who plays for Solihull Blossomfield – is also set to take on his Bears colleagues.

David Woakes, Cricket & Grounds Chairman for the Warwickshire League, said: “We are really looking forward to another great fixture against the Bears as last year's fixture was played in great spirit and allowed so many of our players to show their talent and ability.

There is very limited car parking at Sutton Coldfield CC and spectators are encourage to use public transport. Sutton railway station is a 12 minute walk from the ground, plus there is more parking in the town centre.
