As a lifelong cricket aficionado, Mick Jagger would no doubt appreciate the beauty of a sun-kissed day at New Road.
So it's very safe to say he would heartily approve of the scene there one balmy afternoon in September 2012 when some of his finest work was belting out across Worcester from the visitors' balcony at the lovely ground beside the Severn.
The resonant chords of 'Gimme Shelter' sailed across the field as, an hour after the match finished, many Bears fans remained, chatting, chilling and celebrating. In the away dressing room, champagne corks popped and handshakes and hugs were exchanged - in the back yard of their neighbours and old rivals, Warwickshire had clinched the County Championship title.
The Bears went into action at New Road knowing that victory would deliver the title to Edgbaston for only the seventh time in the club's history. The scene was full of promise. Warwickshire were top of the table and the home side, already doomed to relegation, appeared beatable. The weather was perfect and the Bears fans made the short journey in force.
The script unfolded perfectly for Troughton's men from the first over. Worcestershire chose to bat, struggled to two for one in the fifth over and then lurched to 17 for five.
The instruments of their destruction were the men whose new-ball partnership had underpinned the charge to the title. The Pears were bowled out for 60 in just 28.4 overs as Chris Wright took 14.4-5-24-5 and Keith Barker 14-4-36-5. The bowlers were supported, as always throughout that memorable season, by top-drawer slip fielding from Varun Chopra and Rikki Clarke, who shared five catches.
In reply to a paltry 60, openers Chopra and Ian Westwood then added 136. The Bears closed the first day on 215 for two and the champagne was put on ice.
On the second day, Chopra, on the ground where he enjoyed so much success, advanced to a sparkling 195 (358 balls, 27 fours). Supported by Westwood (54), Troughton (54), Ian Blackwell (84) and Barker (40), the captain powered his side to 471 for eight declared. Worcestershire required 411 to avoid an innings defeat.
They were soon nought for one after Barker dismissed Phil Hughes. Former Bears batsman Moeen Ali offered some resistance with an unbeaten 72 but the home side mustered just 209 all out, Wright four for 65, Barker three for 39, Boyd Rankin two for 19.
To the delight of the Bears fans, a glorious season was brought to a glorious climax with a series of flying bails. Worcestershire were 192 for seven...then Wright hit the stumps of Chris Russell, Nick Harrison and Alan Richardson in the space of 12 balls. Former Bears' favourite 'Richo was the last to go when his stumps were shattered. Let those celebrations begin...
