Birmingham Phoenix sign Joe Weatherley as Bethell injury replacement

Birmingham Phoenix can confirm the signing of Joe Weatherley as an injury replacement for Jacob Bethell for The Hundred.

Bethell had previously been ruled out of this year’s competition through injury, with the England international unavailable for the Phoenix campaign.

Weatherley joins Birmingham Phoenix with a wealth of experience in the domestic game, having built an impressive career with Hampshire across all formats.

A versatile top-order batter, the 29-year-old brings proven quality and depth to the Phoenix squad ahead of the tournament having enjoyed a successful Vitality Blast campaign, scoring 591 runs at a strike rate of 150.

Birmingham Phoenix Head Coach Shane Bond said: “We’re obviously disappointed to lose a player of Jacob’s quality and potential, but Joe is an excellent replacement. He has scored runs consistently over a number of years in county cricket and brings plenty of experience to the group.
