Australia name squad for Women's Ashes at Edgbaston

Australia have named a 15-player group for the Women’s Ashes this summer, with Edgbaston hosting the first IT20 of the series on Saturday 1 July.

19-year-old batter Phoebe Litchfield is the only new inclusion to the squad that won the T20 World Cup last month in South Africa.

Meg Lanning will captain the world’s number one side who will be seeking to retain the Ashes they won down under last January, and held since 2015, across the multi-format series.

Australia will play England in a Test match at Trent Bridge from June 22, followed by three IT20s and three ODIs. Four points are available in the Test and two in each of the limited-overs games.

Cricket Australia's Head of Performance and National Selector Shawn Flegler said: "Following the success of the side at the recent T20 World Cup, the focus now turns to the exciting challenge of retaining the Ashes away from home.

"Phoebe Litchfield has taken her game to the next level in the past 12 months, we view her as a long-term player for Australia and it's pleasing to reward her progress with selection in an Ashes squad.”

Only limited tickets are now left for the Women’s Ashes IT20 at Edgbaston, with some stands already sold out. Adult tickets are available from only £17, while under 16s are £5. Tickets can be purchased online at tickets.edgbaston.com.
