Jani hits double-hundred as Second XI earn dominant win

Vansh Jani hit a sensational unbeaten double-hundred as Warwickshire Bears Second XI won by eight wickets against Nottinghamshire in a high-scoring One Day friendly at Notts Sports Club.

Jani’s outstanding innings of 215* came off just 151 balls and included a staggering 28 fours and ten sixes as Warwickshire chased down what had initially looked like a testing total of 352 with seven overs remaining.

Batting first, Nottinghamshire lost two early wickets to the bowling of Olly Hannon-Dalby, who would end the day as the pick of the Bears bowlers with four for 38 from his ten overs.

Opening batter Ben Slater held the innings together for Notts by scoring a hundred of his own, before he was eventually dismissed by Ethan Bamber for a 101-ball 124. There were several other contributions from Notts’ middle-order too, with Lyndon James making 75, and Haseeb Hameed (34), Farham Ahmed (35) and Byron Hatton-Lowe (42) adding runs as Notts reached 352 for eight from their 50 overs.

Jacob Garlick picked up two wickets for the Bears, with Jani taking the other Notts wicket to fall.

Warwickshire’s reply got off to the perfect, with Jani and Zen Malik ensuring the Bears were up with the required rate from the off.

The duo combined to put on 135 for the first wicket before Malik was dismissed for 55, and Kai Smith (9) was out caught off the bowling of Patel, leaving the Bears 165 for two, still needing 187 for victory.

Alex Davies (52*) joined Jani at the crease, with Jani taking the game to Notts, hitting the ball to all parts as Warwickshire eased to their total thanks to his double-hundred and a 188-run partnership with Davies that came off just 106 balls.
