Garton: Best is still to come When Bears First Team Coach Mark Robinson was asked: Do you want to sign a left arm fast bowler, who can bowl 85mph-plus, is one of the best fielders in the country, and is a destructive batter? He wasn't long in replying with a resounding, "yes"! Robinson knows all about the qualities George Garton possesses having spent 10 years as coach at Sussex where Garton developed through the youth ranks before a call-up to the England Lions aged just 19. Many believed Garton was England's answer to finding a left arm quick of genuine world class ability and he made his international debut in January 2022 in the West Indies. However, a blood clot on his lung derailed his progress as left him out of the game for some time. "I feel my best years as a player are ahead of me and I retain huge ambitions in the game. I am delighted to have joined the Bears and I have the utmost respect for the Club and its history." George Garton Bowler Garton - who has a batting best of 97 - signed for the Bears at the end of 2023 as a short form specialist but a player who still harbours ambitions to return to red ball cricket. He's played in the IPL and Australian Big Bash, and in 2020 helped Southern Brave to win the inaugural The Hundred title. Ahead of the 2024 season Garton had 72 T20 wickets to his name from 81 games.
