All-rounder Chris Woakes made his County Championship debut for the Bears in 2007 and made an immediate impact. In 2008 - his first full season - he topped the Club’s bowling averages in red-ball cricket, taking 45 wickets at 20.48. The right-handed bat and right arm fast-medium bowler hasn’t looked back since. In Bears colours, Woakes sealed the County’s first T20 Blast title in 2014, holding his nerve in the final over against Lancashire to make sure the Bears triumphed. After impressing for several years in county cricket, Woakes was selected for England for the first time in 2011 and went on to be an outstanding ambassador for the County when on England duty. A double-World Cup winner and Ashes Player of the Series in 2023, Woakes represented England on 217 occasions across formats, taking 396 wickets and scoring 3,705 runs before he announced his retirement from international cricket at the end of 2025.
