Bears Women sign teenager Beech to rookie contract

Warwickshire Bears Women have signed promising teenager Sophie Beech on a rookie contract for the 2027 and 2028 seasons.

Beech, who has made three senior appearances over the past two seasons, has been with the Club since 2022.

A top-order batter and wicket-keeper, Beech started playing cricket at the age of eight at her local club Little Stoke, and went on to play for Staffordshire through the age groups from Under 11s.

In 2022, Beech was selected for the Warwickshire Academy and has spent time on loan at Worcestershire since, gaining senior experience in Tier 2 cricket.

Beech was selected to represent England at the 2025 U19s World Cup and was then subsequently selected for England’s tri-series in Australia earlier this year.

The 17-year-old made her senior debut for the Bears in last year’s Metro Bank One Day Cup, turning out twice, and made her first start of 2026 in the same competition last month, coming in at short notice for the injured Meg Austin.

Speaking about signing her rookie contract, Beech said: “This is a very proud moment for me and my family. A lot of hard work has gone into it, not just in cricketing terms, but my family have been there with me every step of the way.

“It’s been exciting to be around the first team over the last few months, and I’m looking forward to continuing my development and learning from the great players we have here at Warwickshire.”

Warwickshire Bears General Manager (Team Performance), Paul Greetham, said: “The coaching staff have all been incredibly impressed by Sophie since she joined the Club in 2022.

“She has already made great strides in the last couple of years and we’re all excited to follow her progress. We’re delighted that she has signed a rookie contract here.”
